Give A Book Short Film – Solace and Connection Through Reading

We’re proud to have supported director Davy Lazare in the production of his compelling 90-second film for the Prison Reading Groups’ Give a Book initiative. This beautifully crafted film follows the journey of a father, played by award-winning actor Ralph Ineson, who stars as a prison inmate who finds solace and redemption through reading highlighting the work of PRG.

The short film, created in conjunction with Media Trust and the Criminal Justice Alliance, is based on stories from real-life prisoners and sheds light on systemic challenges like re-offending. It emphasises how fostering family ties and meaningful activities, like reading, can play a key role in rehabilitation.

Davy said of the film: “My experience with criminal justice reform began alongside my career in film. Right out of film school, I joined a Social Enterprise that used filmmaking and theatre to rehabilitate prisoners and fight recidivism. There, I witnessed the transformative power of the arts, uncovering humanity and potential in the most unexpected places. I want this film to show how something as simple as reading and family connection can enrich a person’s life – even a person in prison.”

The film has also been submitted for a Smiley Charity Film Award so give it a vote below!
